Artwork description

Williams’ work re-appropriates found images by presenting them in a new context framed or obscured by spray-painted shape and colour. In these works, the artist has taken monochromatic reproductions of British landscape painting from the 18th century and re-presented these as geometric forms evoking portals of light.

The image used in this work references ‘Wooded Landscape with Mounted Peasant’ by Thomas Gainsborough, 1759. However, Williams is not concerned with the specifics of location; the landscape is presented as a sublime counter to the ambiguous, abstract forms set over or beside it.

The artist describes her work as ‘deliberately quiet - so as to slow down the gaze and draw in the viewer’.

Artist Sales: this work is sold by the artist. The sale is facilitated by RA Enterprises (RAE) for which RAE receives a commission from the artist only.
