Product story

Farthing drew his first ‘tree portraits’ in the summer of 1999, in Southern France. The following year he moved to New York and halfway through the process of re-drawing the trees onto etching plates, the project was halted as a result of a studio fire. His advice on drawing trees is to 'start with the very highest leaf and slowly work your way down… the trunk is the easy bit'.

The RA Editions programme generates valuable revenue for the RA and in particular the RA Schools.

The following year he moved to New York and halfway through the process of re-drawing the trees onto etching plates, the project was halted as a result of a studio fire, and the 9/11 tragedy. This is the first in a new series of prints; Farthing’s subject is growing on a strip of land that separates Regan domestic airport and the Pentagon. His advice on drawing trees is: "start with the very highest leaf and slowly work your way down… the trunk is the easy bit”.

All proceeds from the sale of RA Editions prints go directly to support the RA Schools.
