Product story

Liane Lang merges sculpture and photography to provocatively pastiche the Albert Memorial, and the imperial, self-aggrandising tendencies it embodies.

Lang’s gentle visual jokes make the original work more relevant to the 21st century. Besieged by rising seas, Germany holds a bucket, and Europe a bag of money – to mockingly evoke both flooding and catastrophic debt.

All proceeds from the sale of RA Editions prints go directly to support the RA Schools.

Lang’s works often examine and question the credibility of museum artefacts and the narratives they attempt to tell, particularly figurative sculptures and political monuments. In Europe (Albert Memorial), she continues her interrogation through visual puns, making the original work more relevant to the twenty-first century. Besieged by rising seas, Germany holds a bucket, and Europe a bag of money – mockingly to evoke both flooding and catastrophic debt.

The RA Editions programme generates valuable revenue for the RA and in particular the RA Schools.
