Sheep Meadow is a large lawn in Central Park, New York. Bill Jacklin says it is invariably inhabited with a motley group of individuals going about their business or relaxing in the sun. This work is one of two etchings drawn from various sketches Jacklin made over the years while observing Sheep Meadow. Sheep Meadow NYCI and Sheep Meadow NYCII explore the relationship between the figures in the park, their shadows and the patterns that are created.
All proceeds from the sale of RA Editions prints go directly to support the RA Schools.
“I always thought of the city as an arena, the light shining down is my spotlight, in which I can create my own drama.”
Bill Jacklin originally worked as a graphic designer before turning to painting in the early 1960s, studying at the Royal College of Art. Initially concerned with abstraction, Jacklin moved towards figurative work in the mid-1970s after relocating to New York. Recording ‘people involved in their passions’, Jacklin examines the flow of forms and the play of light.
The RA Editions programme generates valuable revenue for the RA and in particular the RA Schools.
