Rebecca Salter PRA’s distinctive prints utilise traditional Japanese woodblock printmaking techniques to create subtle, light-filled imagery. Salter became interested in the traditional techniques of Japanese woodblock having lived and studied printmaking in Kyoto, Japan. She says; ‘I have a passion for Japanese art and especially for woodblock prints, a printing technique using, traditionally, Japanese paper, cherry wood and water-based inks. I am attracted to the visual sophistication of the prints; the flat colour, the bold, cropped compositions and, above all, the fluidity of the lines’.
All proceeds from the sale of RA Editions prints go directly to support the RA Schools.
About Rebecca Salter PRA
Rebecca Salter PRA is the current President of the Royal Academy of Arts. She studied at Bristol Polytechnic and then at Kyoto City University of the Arts in Japan, where she lived for six years. While living in Kyoto she studied traditional Japanese woodblock printing with Professor Kurosaki Akira and has since written two books on the subject. Her interest...
