Product story

Hugo Bevan produced this print during a recent etching workshop led by Norman Ackroyd for A Level students at Eton College. With notable confidence, Bevan has, with uncluttered clarity and minimal gestures, captured the essential structure and character of the building.

In Bevan’s own words, ‘The image for the etching was originally a watercolour I had produced in Trujillo, Spain, at the end of March. It was done from below the town walls with a view of the towers, walls and descending paths and gardens. I used the original watercolour as a guide to my mark-making on the plate, with particular regard to the study of light.’

About Hugo Bevan

Hugo Bevan is the youngest artist selected for the Etching: The Infernal Method  exhibition and he is currently undertaking a scholarship at Eton college. Bevan and Norman Ackroyd RA first met when an etching workshop was taught by Ackroyd at Eton, who was keen to adopt and encourage unrecognised printmakers, thereafter inviting Bevan to exhibit at the RA.
