Our world is currently in a state of socio-economic and ecological instability, an issue Tamsin Relly examines through her work. By looking at the relationships between political and economic power structures, she explores their impact on everyday life and the exploitation of our planet. Car was heavily influenced by Relly’s response to the London riots in 2011 as the media was flooded with images of cars and buildings in flames. The resulting work is a powerful reflection on how we underestimate the vulnerability of first-world cities to civil unrest.
