The three-dimensional Perspex cube seems an appropriate vehicle for Basil Beattie RA’s contribution to Cure3, as he often incorporates architectural elements in his work. Here, the cylindrical forms, reminiscent of Asian handscrolls, combined with the expressive brushstrokes and molten appearance of the marks made, create an evocative artwork which teases the viewer by partially concealing the pictorial images.

Art and science unite with Cure3. Established in 2017 and now in its third edition, Cure3 was devised and curated by Artwise in partnership with Bonhams to raise awareness and funds for The Cure Parkinson's Trust.
Participating artists are each given a bespoke Perspex cube measuring just 20cm3 as a compact space to interact with and to create original artworks on or within. For Cure3 2020, over 90 artists participated, including several of our Royal Academicians. These collectable artworks launched at Bonhams 5-8 September this year and we are proud to be showcasing a selection of the works this winter.
