Artwork description

We are proud to present this framed limited edition Screenprint with collage by Sandra Blow (1925–2006). Renowned for her large-scale abstract canvases, Blow’s work was characterised by geometric composition, layering and vivid colour, with torn paper, string and hessian often collaged onto the canvas. Blow taught at the Royal College of Art in the 1960s and early 70s, alongside Carel Weight and Ruskin Spear, and was heralded as one of the few women painters of her time to challenge the male-dominated world of abstract painting. She spent the later part of her life in St Ives, Cornwall, but still managed to exhibit every year in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, and in 1994 enjoyed a retrospective in our Sackler Galleries.
