Artwork description

June Redfern’s paintings, drawings and prints are often informed by the dramatic weather and landscape of Scotland where she was born, and currently lives and works. Redfern’s expressive use of luscious colour creates landscape studies and portraits infused with warmth and sunlight, often returning to recurring motifs such as fishing boats, figures and animals. This print is from a series of five made from three plates to enable the artist to create separate blocks of colour. Redfern says that she has always been ‘fascinated by the archetypal image of the horse’; the animal’s powerful and mysterious silhouette can be found in images made throughout her practice.
