Toby Holme’s Family Favourites blends classical portraiture with playful pop culture references, reimagining aristocratic figures dressed in gowns and headpieces made from colourful candy wrappers.
Part of Holmes’ ongoing series The Product Placement Project, a humorous and fun Pop-Surrealist work exploring the connections and boundaries between art and advertising.
Toby Holmes is a London-based artist and graphic designer inspired by Robert Rauschenberg and Peter Blake's unconventional use of cultural references and commercialised products within their artworks. He creates playful and humorous ’Pop-Surrealist’ sculptures and prints combining images drawn from a huge variety of sources from classical art to contemporary packaging & advertising.
‘I create digital collages that fuse classical art history and pop-cultural fragments which hopefully layer humour, whimsy and nostalgia to produce fun images that feel at once familiar and strangely new.'
