Artwork description

Clancy’s graphic imagery is informed by her own experience and observation of the physical world. Much of it has a dreamlike quality to its narrative, developed as she responds to classic fairy tales, other contemporary stories and through her own researches.

The imagery she depicts in this print was inspired by the landscape, museum collections and neighbouring islands of Stavanger, a city on a peninsula in Southwest Norway. Clancy herself says, ‘I created a series of etchings about a woman who wanted to fly. This etching is one of the series where she has travelled to an island and stumbled across a house with unusual animals and oddities.’
