Artwork description

Long fascinated by the challenge of depicting natural light, Woodall brings drama and intrigue to this image by introducing a shadowy figure descending the forest steps.

Woodall makes black-and-white prints from copper plates using a technique called aquatint, which allows him to attain the soft tones he needs to create the atmospheric revelations of morning light.

The plate for this print was etched and printed by Woodall in his studio at Yorkshire ArtSpace, Sheffield.
