Alfred Parsons was born on 2 December 1847 at Beckingham in Somerset. A painter and illustrator, he studied at the South Kensington School and specialized in botanical subjects and gardens and also practiced as a garden and landscape designer.
As well as being elected a Royal Academician in 1911, Alfred Parsons was also a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours. This drawing was presented to the Academy by Dr Bryan N. Brook in 1955.
