Born in London in 1893, John Nash is best known for his landscape paintings. Although he had no formal training as an artist, he became a founder member of the London Group in 1914 and worked as an official war artist after the First World War.
He was elected a Royal Academician in 1951 and awarded a CBE in 1964. In 1967 he became the first livning painter to have a retrospective of his work staged at the Royal Academy.
