Product story

Dame Laura Knight (1877 – 1970) was born in Derbyshire and attended Nottingham School of Art. She was the only female artist to be given war commissions in both World Wars and later was commissioned as the only British artist to cover the Nuremberg Trials.

Made a Dame in 1929, in 1963 she became the first woman to be elected to full membership at the Royal Academy. She was President of the Society of Women Artists between 1932 and 1969. Knight’s artwork was exhibited worldwide and in 1965 she became the first female academician to have a retrospective of her work at the Royal Academy.
