Product story

Eileen Cooper OBE RA

Diana and Actaeon, 2015

Linocut, 70 x 53 cm

Eileen Cooper was born in 1953 at Glossop in the Derbyshire Peak District. She studied at Goldsmiths' College, London from 1971 to 1974 and went on to study painting at the Royal College of Art. Sometimes described as a magic realist, she brings an unapologetically female perspective to her subject matter, which encompasses sexuality, motherhood, life and death.

Cooper has taught in numerous institutions, among them St Martins, the Royal College of Art and the Royal Academy Schools. She became a Royal Academician in 2000, and in 2010 was elected Keeper of the Royal Academy, the first woman to fulfil this role in the Academy's long history.
