Artwork description

Lawson’s long career as a painter has seen her explore a wide breath of subject matter through figurative and abstract painting, referencing a number of artistic movements. Richly coloured, infused with warmth, and often informed by her childhood and life experiences, Lawson’s work often has a poignant, dream-like quality combined with a strength and decisiveness. Memory and reflection are strong themes throughout her practice. In Girl Dreaming of Pony the artist has used dynamic mark-making to create a layered, surreal image combining recognisable symbolic forms with abstract shapes
