Artwork description

An image of desolate beauty by Marion MacPhee. Etching, she says gives her “the freedom to be expressive whilst maintaining an illustrative and representational approach”.

Gola is a small, sparsely-populated island, off the coast of Co. Donegal, Ireland, where MacPhee served a residency. “A love of wild and isolated places has always been a theme in my work,” says the artist. The work was completed at a studio near Inverness in 2014.

“Growing up on the Isle of Skye,” says MacPhee, “you are never more than five miles from the sea. It is this connection that has had a dominant influence upon my work, exploring themes relating to natural environment, history and mythology in an attempt to capture the atmosphere of a particular place.”

Artist Sales: this work is sold by the artist. The sale is facilitated by RA Enterprises (RAE) for which RAE receives a commission from the artist only.
