Artwork description

Marisa J. Futernick’s work looks at the failed promise of the American Dream, intertwining the personal with the historical and fact with fiction, often through the act of searching for something or someplace lost or inaccessible. Issues of class, progress and real estate are also central to her practice. She uses a variety of media including photography, writing, installation, video, drawing, screenprinting and painting; with the combination of text and image a regular feature throughout.

This limited edition hand numbered and signed book How I Taught Umberto Eco to Love the Bomb combines original colour photographs with a short story by the artist and is a companion work to Marisa’s RA Edition print, Madonna Inn. Featuring real-life cultural critics as fictional characters, this is the tale of a California road trip, with Futernick serving as driver, tour guide and American optimist.

All proceeds from the sale of RA Editions prints go directly to support the RA Schools.
