Jennifer Durrant RA was born in Brighton in 1942 and trained at Brighton College of Art from 1959-63 and then at Slade School of Fine Art between 1963-66. Durrant's work has been praised for it's symbolic resonance. The abstract forms which distinguish her work often suggest natural processes but resist definition. Her work is often discussed in terms of its spirituality. Durrant exhibited in The Journey: A search for the role of Contemporary art in Religious and Spiritual Life, 1990, during which two of her large canvases were displayed in Lincoln Cathedral. She herself has said: 'I do think that a painting may be seen rather like a Mandala, in that it's use may be meditative or contemplative.' Jennifer Durrant was elected a Royal Academician in 1994. The notecards feature details from the paintings; Series Ghirlanda no.28 and Series Ghirlanda continua: Italia no.23.
