John Titchell RA John Titchell went to art school when he was 14, a working-class boy with a talent for drawing. Painting the rural and coastal landscape he found in Kent, he adapted op-art principles in his attempts to create the dazzle and heat of brilliant sunlight. Over the years his understanding deepened, his colour becoming purer, subtler, the sense of light more dynamic and intense, possibly because of his determined dissatisfaction with his work. His single minded exploration of the relationship between colour and light has made him one of the most individual colourists of our time. He was elected a Royal Academician In 1991. The notecards feature two paintings: Indian Summer, Frith Farm, 1974 and Mist Clearing, Frith Farm, 1991.
