Artwork description

We are proud to present this screenprint by Patrick Caulfield (1936–2005). Perhaps best known for his graphic, vividly coloured paintings incorporating segments of photorealism, Caulfield was often described as a Pop Artist, although he himself resisted being categorised as such. Often exploring the angular and curvaceous forms of vessels and lamps as subject matter for his still lifes, his compositions are a masterclass in the deceptively simple placement of objects and depiction of light and shadow. Caulfield studied at the Royal College of Art and Chelsea College of Arts, and later also taught at Chelsea. He was closely associated with John Hoyland, Allen Jones and David Hockney, and is cited by Stephen Farthing as one of his primary influences.
