Artwork description

This etching is based on the concept for a sliding bridge to be produced in corten steel (designed to form a rust-like colour).

Ian Ritchie’s architectural practice has realised landmark European projects, including the Reina Sofía Museum of Modern Art Glass Towers, Madrid, and the Leipzig Glass Hall. Norman Ackroyd has worked with a number of friends and contemporaries to make prints at his Bermondsey studio, including architects such as Ritchie, who are diversifying their practice to include printmaking. This print uses a minimal, elegant, visual language which exemplifies the versatility of contemporary etching practice.

Leamouth Opening Bridge
Slip, tide, river
cross me, slowly,
watch the light
dance upon me.
Slide, stroll, river
cross me, happily,
let the air
caress my cheeks.
Time to ponder
solid sliding arc,
red as sun
