Product story

For customers with a taste for the rare and special, the RA team has sourced a range of original contemporary art works and unique pieces, direct from artists and makers in Aotearoa and the Pacific Islands. The result is an extraordinary and unique collection of limited-edition art works and one-off pieces of glass, ceramics, weaving, fabric, cloth painting, carving, sculpture and jewellery.  The exhibition provides an opportunity to acquire very special pieces that have not been available in the UK before, and which showcase techniques and materials largely unknown in Europe.

Born in Aotearoa in 1949, Roy Mason graduated from the Canterbury College School of Art, Christchurch in 1972 with a Diploma in Fine Arts majoring in Sculpture. He focused on the impact of small-scale sculpture, which evolved into jewellery. His early designs were constructed around concepts based on social issues. He continues to explore natural materials from his environment and the Pacific, expressing their relevance through design. Mason was one of the founding members of Fingers Jewellery in 1974 and has contributed work to all exhibitions of Fingers makers from 1974-2017.
