In her compositions Mali Morris RA explores layering and covering, creating tension and multiple spaces. Her carefully composed paintings often feature varying brush strokes and shapes that are then ‘buried’ in different ways. In this vibrant, printed image, Morris uses sweeping strokes and painted spots to create different levels within the work with some areas receding and some floating above the tangerine background.
A painting or print’s making process is of paramount importance to the artist and the final resolution is often elusive. Morris says "I think I enjoy the contradictions between strategic planning and desperate impulse that seem necessary to the search."
This work was exhibited in the 2016 Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition.
