Published in 1973, this distinctive print relates to similar works on paper made by Nigel Hall at around the same time. It was originally produced as part of the 18 Small Prints series, conceived by Bernard Jacobson and Peter Blake. Showing a preoccupation with ‘figure’ and ‘ground’, the dimensions of the outer edges of the black form (the edge of the plate) relate to the negative vertical spaces, which create slivers of light within the intense darkness of the printed ink. Only a small number of prints remain from this limited edition.
