Born in Stockton-on-Tees in 1936, Olwyn Bowey studied at West Hartlepool School of Art before attending the Royal College of Art, London. Her work concentrates on landscape and still-life, with a particular interest in the tradition of the artist plantsman. An exhibition on this theme entitled 'Olwyn Bowey Drawings' was held at the Royal Academy of Arts, London in 2000.
Bowey was elected a Royal Academecian in 1970. She is an Honorary Member of the Royal Society of British Artists and of the Royal West of Englad Academy, and an Associate of the Royal College of Art. She lives and works in Sussex, often from her greenhouse.
