Irvin made screenprints for many years at Advanced Graphics London, a printmaking studio and gallery in Borough, which exclusively uses oil-based inks thus achieving an incredible vibrancy of colour and heavy, layered surfaces. O'Connell was named after O'Connell street in Dublin and related to Irvin's exhibition at the Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin in 1995. Whether the marks and motifs are interpreted as trails left by planes or seagulls, the overriding sensation is one of passion and spontenaeity. A partner print was made and titled Merrion.
