Artwork description

How do we relate physically and emotionally to evolving environments? Sara Lee’s evocative response invites the viewer to ask the question of themselves. This is one of a new series of woodcut prints exploring the enigmatic light where night merges into day, made using the Japanese ukiyo-e style technique. Watercolour is applied to blocks with specialist brushes, and then printed by hand onto Japanese hand-made paper. Each image is printed from four blocks and has nine separate layers. Journeying through landscape, and making site-specific responses to that experience, is central to Lee’s practice.
