Artwork description

Relly’s practice reflects on the increasingly disrupted weather conditions of a shifting global climate and explores notions of wilderness, erased or constructed for industry or leisure.

Palm Sky was made in response to visiting Las Vegas during a travelling artist’s residency in Utah and Nevada in 2014. While the region is going through a severe drought, it takes a considerable amount of water to sustain the city - like a fabricated oasis in the desert, the lawns remain green and the pools are full.

Relly embraces the unpredictable qualities of printmaking. The accidents which occur through the process create ‘noise’ on the plate which contribute to the hand drawn lines in the printed image.
