This is the first comprehensive publication dedicated to Mali Morris’ paintings, covering the last forty years. Prefaced by the late Mel Gooding, the book also features an insightful essay by Sam Cornish that evaluates the influence and importance of Morris’ work, as well as writings by the artist.
Each book in this limited edition of 50 features an original screenprint, Calling, individually signed and numbered by the artist.
The process of making this print was a considered one for Morris: ‘I made very many studies in paint and collage to arrive at this configuration and palette, trying out a range of colours and scales, finding out how the space is changed by every tiny difference. Everything matters, every edge, every density, every interval and every relationship. At the same time I wanted a directness of handling – for the forms to go down with an immediacy of touch.’
Mali Morris' experiments with colour, layering, and pictorial space have made her one of the most intriguing abstract artists working in Britain today.
