Over the years, Richard Spare has pared down his drawing to express the essence of what he sees, attempting to evoke the fragility of life and his respect for its existence.
The rich velvet blacks of the drypoint line against the pure pigment makes for a vibrant and beautiful combination. The opportunity to travel widely, experiencing the rich Japanese culture and traditions has been a huge influence on the artist’s work, which is evident in these prints.
