Artwork description

Royal Academician David Remfry is renowned for his watercolour portraits made by working directly from the sitter. Having spent many years living at the legendary Chelsea Hotel in New York, Remfry has drawn a number of high profile figures as well as friends, artists and their canine companions. Tender and intimately rendered, Remfry’s drawings and paintings are often on a larger-than-life scale capturing the personality of his sitters or the dynamic motion of dancing couples through the drawn line. Though decidedly figurative his work has a distinctive contemporary tone, exploring moments in time within modern life.

In Remfry’s words: ‘Samira Abassy is a fellow artist. We both showed with Gillian Raffles at the Mercury Gallery in the 1990’s. We met again in New York. This is one of a series of paintings and drawings of friends who were pregnant’.

Artist Sales: this work is sold by the artist. The sale is facilitated by RA Enterprises (RAE) for which RAE receives a commission from the artist only.
