Conrad Shawcross Limited Edition Sculpture

This limited edition sculpture entitled Seed (The Dappled Light of the Sun) 2015 by Conrad Shawcross RA relates strongly to the courtyard work The Dappled Light of the Sun, a large-scale immersive work conceived for and exhibited at the Royal Academy’s historic Annenberg Courtyard during the Summer Exhibition 2015. Consisting of five cloud-like forms in weathering steel, weighing five tonnes each and made up of a mass of tetrahedrons supported on implausibly slender tripods, these create a dramatic canopy raised more than six metres above the courtyard.

Please Note: Sculptures are limited to 2 per household.

More details

The sculptures of Conrad Shawcross RA explore subjects that lie on the borders of geometry and philosophy, physics and metaphysics. Often inspired by redundant theories and technologies as well as natural forces, his structures remain enigmatic, filled with paradox and wonder. Shawcross has also experimented with ideal geometries and topologies; these constructions are conceived as systems, sometimes modular, sometimes mechanical, which could theoretically be extended infinitely. He often pays tribute to great pioneers and analysts, and considers specific moments or figures from the past. “The Greeks considered the tetrahedron to represent the very essence of matter.”

Its is both beautiful and simple in equal measure.

Nice solid heavy piece. It's a pity it is not signed more clearly but perhaps this is partly due to the metal surface itself.
