We are proud to present this screenprint with woodblock by John Hoyland (1934–2011). Renowned as a passionate painter of intensely vivid abstract canvases, Hoyland’s work was driven by wide-ranging sources of inspiration but perhaps most prominently by nature. Dynamic mark-making and splashes of paint characterised Hoyland’s imagery; in this work, a black background creates high drama and contrast. Hoyland taught at Chelsea College of Arts in the 1970s and 80s and was a lifelong friend of Patrick Caulfield, who also taught at the college with Allen Jones, Craigie Aitchison and Stephen Farthing. This work is printed and published by Advanced Graphics London using oil-based inks that give vibrant colour and a richness of surface.
