Summer Exhibition 2016 Illustrated Catalogue

The Summer Exhibition Illustrated Catalogue 2016 features spectacular installation shots of the galleries and numerous reproductions of the works on display.

The images perfectly complement Richard Davey’s absorbing introduction to this year’s hang, which has been masterminded by Richard Wilson RA. Davey has met with all the Royal Academicians on the hanging committee and has written an insightful account of their various approaches to the arrangement of each gallery.

Product story

First published in the 1870s, the Summer Exhibition Illustrated presents the highlights of each year’s selection and is a fascinating barometer of changing artistic tastes.

The Royal Academy’s popular Summer Exhibition has been an annual event since 1769. Today, around a thousand works are chosen each year from over 12,000 entries. The exhibition, which includes paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, architectural designs and models, is the largest open-submission exhibition show in the world. For 2016, coordinator Richard Wilson RA has specially invited over 20 renowned artistic duos to feature within the exhibition, including Jake and Dinos Chapman, Gilbert & George, Jane and Lousie Wilson, Tim Noble and Sue Webster and Pierre at Gilles.
