Artwork description

Bob and Roberta Smith (who is actually one artist, not a pairing), is renowned for his low-tech, impactful sign paintings on wood. He is perhaps best known for his controversial ‘Letter to Michael Gove’, shown in the 2015 Summer Exhibition. Consistent in his passionate messaging and commentary on politics and cultural education, the artist returns to the spirit of that work in this series of hand-painted records and record covers. Presented as a varied edition of 40, each record sleeve is annotated and unique. Each record has been hand-painted in the centre with an ‘A’ on one side and a ‘B’ on the other. The artist cleverly re-appropriates an iconic symbol of popular culture –its original function to provide a message through song – to deliver his plea.

Artist Sales: this work is sold by the artist. The sale is facilitated by RA Enterprises (RAE) for which RAE receives a commission from the artist only.
