Product story

Want is a compilation of postcards collected by the legendary art dealer John Kasmin. The subjects are beggars photographed predominantly in the nineteenth-century. Beggars are one of the most evocative subjects in Kasmin's collection and this selection of postcards reflects the arresting imagery and engaging - although often disturbing - social narratives that first attracted him to the mendicant motif. In a series of short commentaries Kasmin articulates that attraction, going behind each of the postcards to establish their provenance and describe their fascination.
