William Scott CBE RA William Scott, born in 1913, is a British artist best known for his paintings of still-lifes, landscapes and female nudes in which the boundary between abstraction and figuration is deliberately blurred. Scott exhibited widely throughout his life both in the United Kingdom and abroad, and rapidly acquired an international reputation. He represented Britain at the São Paulo Bienal in 1953 and 1961, and at the Venice Biennale in 1958. In 1966, he was awarded a CBE and in 1984 he was made a Royal Academician. After suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease for some years, he died at his home in Somerset in December 1989. The notecards feature images from two oil paintings: Single Blue Pear, 1986 and Pears and Knife II, 1973.
