Apocalypse Exhibition Poster, 2000

Formulated by Sir Norman Rosenthal, the Academy's mercurial Exhibitions Secretary, Apocalypse was the Royal Academy's millennial exhibition, with the subtitle 'Beauty and Horror in Contemporary Art'.  Visitors entered through a small floor-level hole into a recreation of the basement of Gregor Schneider's project Haus u r.  The show's central exhibit was Jake & Dinos Chapman's monumental nightmare in miniature, Hell (since destroyed in a fire).
