Evergreen explores landscape as a place for shelter, both welcoming and revitalising through a selection of paintings and drawings personally significant to the artist.
Earth, sea and sky are experienced from the ground up, the figures literally immersed in their world. The works Winter Sun and The Lily Pond are inspired by Christina Rossetti’s poem
Somewhere or Other suggesting a sense of longing and uncertainty. In all of Cooper’s work, the ongoing narrative is imbued with creativity, sexuality and fertility, creating magical spaces for timeless rituals where the subjects experience rather than observe the landscape, inviting us to do the same.
On show in the Academicians' Room, Keeper's House from 1 April 2025.
