Advanced Graphics London: The Magic is in the Tea

Advanced Graphics London: The Magic is in the Tea

This selling show celebrates the collaboration between Royal Academicians past and present with master printers and publishers Advanced Graphics London. Bringing together six decades of work featuring prints by Craigie Aitchison, Vanessa Jackson, Basil Beattie and Tess Jaray, this display showcases the many combined techniques employed by the studio. From flocking to blocking, each work highlights how screenprinting can be anything but hard-edged and flat.

The studio, currently based in Kennington, began in 1967 and continues to produce and publish original prints by established artists. The show's title is taken from a piece of writing by Albert Irvin on the Studio’s 30th Anniversary in 1997. He expresses beautifully the nature of the relationship between artist and printer, enabling the artist to reach a higher level with the help of the technician.

With special thanks to the artists, Advanced Graphics London, Bernard Jacobson Gallery and Cristea Roberts Gallery.

On show in the Sir Hugh Casson Room from 3 September 2024.

"They make you a cup of Advanced Graphics tea when you arrive, then proceed to take your base metal and spin out of it as much gold as it will yield."
