Product story

This humorous woodblock print, inspired by the tiny stickers on fruit for sale, pays homage to Madonna’s 1989 hit through the humble papaya. ‘I love the art on fruit stickers, something so tiny and jolly. The use of text is something relatively new for me. I have recently drawn a lot of characters who are independent business people selling specialised items such as broccoli, bendy balloons and hot dogs’.

Taking inspiration from Japanese woodblock prints and Indian miniature painting, Rock’s subject matter combines humour, drama, fanciful characters, modern culture, mythical beings and fantastical situations.
