Product story

Georg Baselitz Hon RA re-energises the grand tradition of self portraiture. This electrifying piece is a direct homage to the gestural figures of Willem de Kooning, whose primal paintings Baselitz encountered as a student in 1958.

Like that great abstract expressionist, Baselitz has worked instinctively and with a watercolour-like fluidity. Consistent with his established formal vocabulary, which acts to disrupt the painted subject visually and symbolically, Baselitz portrays himself upside down.

All proceeds from the sale of RA Editions prints go directly to support the RA Schools.
