Porcelain Limited Edition Chrysanthemum (Blue) by Ai Weiwei
by Ai Weiwei Hon RA
To celebrate his landmark exhibition at the Royal Academy in 2015, Ai Weiwei Hon RA hand- sculpted these beautiful porcelain chrysanthemum Flower editions exclusively for the RA.
Each piece is entirely unique and limited to 60 each. Weiwei’s Flowers come in a clothbound presentation box with a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist. Also available in pink, white and mauve.
First cultivated in China, chrysanthemums are considered a symbol of good luck and longevity. They are a recurring motif throughout Ai Weiwei’s work and also feature in his activism. When his passport was withheld by the Chinese government, Weiwei placed a fresh bouquet of flowers in a bicycle basket outside his studio every morning. He also set up an Instagram project called #aiflowers; inviting people everywhere to make flowers in remembrance of the children lost in the 2008 Sichuan earthquake.
