Product story
Freeth’s practice as a printmaker is informed by a wide range of sources from poetry, music, folklore, to historical narratives and his own extensive travels in Italy. This new etching is inspired by Canaletto, the Venetian artist (1697 – 1768) famed for his depictions of Venice.
A traditional view of a Venetian canal with shadowy figures in gondolas fades into dusky abstraction beyond the bridge. Freeth uses the versatility of the medium of etching to create a image rich with intrigue and the potential narrative of a dream.
