Exhibition of Greek Art Poster, 1942
In April 1941 Greece was occupied by the Axis powers, its population suffering grievously during the next four years. This exhibition was one of several staged by the RA not only to celebrate art and culture but also to show solidarity with beleaguered allied nations. Just as the London Blitz reached its final destructive phase, visitors to the Academy were able to wonder, in comparative peace, at 3000 years of Greek creativity.
