There is something of an hallucinatory quality to each of Tom Phillips’s three new etchings.
The limited edition print is on display in the Keeper’s House from 15 September 2017 to 19 February 2018.
Phillips is renowned for his pioneering artist’s book, A Humument, which was given a dedicated gallery at the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition, 2015. For this work, he drew, collaged and painted over the pages of an obscure Victorian novel, The Human Document, by W.H. Mallock. By revealing and obscuring parts of its text he transformed each page into a unique work of art.
This new print uses a similar visual language, whereby Phillips makes tiny monochrome marks to create what is an intriguingly dreamlike image.
