Greetings Card by Kate Barlow and featuring the Image 'Smuggler' (detail), 2014 Hand embroidery and silk shading, 21 x 23.
Kate Barlow was born and grew up in North Wales . She started working in the theatre at the age of sixteen and went on to study Theatre Design at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, where she worked as a costume-maker both freelance and later for the Welsh National Opera. In 2013 she started training to be a professional hand embroiderer and tutor at the Royal School of Needlework. Smuggler was stitched using silk shading technique and took over 140 hours using a silk shading technique and took over 140 hours using more then 50 colours.
